Been a bit going on since I posted last. I wasn’t happy with the Pistol Birds as they were, so I cut another bird stencil in another position and another gun stencil and did a bit more work on it.
A few weeks later I heard that the ‘Grey Painter’ had struck again, this time it was bazaar. Again it seems that guns are not to his/her liking even if the painting is making comment on our obsession with weapons. And again they edited the painting to suit their own delicacies. The only words that came to mind was WTF!!!
They painted over the Super Safe signature, shaped the pistols into something vaguely bird like and totally painted out the gold sub-machine bird.
'Freedom of Expression' obviously had no effect. Hmmmm what next?
'Pistol Bird' by Super Safe feat Mr Insterg8r. Going to keep adding to this one. Good practice for rapid fire stenciling.
'Christmas Boy' by Super Safe. The beginning of a funny story.
'You WILL Scrawl Shit' by Super Safe.
'Freedom of Expression' by Super Safe feat Mr Insterg8r.
Its been a while since I’ve had a chance to get on and upload some pics. Did ‘Christmas Boy’ Xmas eve, bit of a comment on the tradition of people stuffing themselves at Xmas time while the other half of the population starve. And we still whinge.
This one was up for only a few days and the scribblers were back. This was the start of a nice bit of fun with the council or who ever has painted the grey over the scribbles in the past.
The fourth pic down was a few days later, so I painted over ‘Xmas Boy’ with a plan in mind.
A few nights later I went and stenciled ‘You WILL Scrawl Shit’ this painting was aimed at the scribblers. They’ve put their handy work over stuff quite a few times in the past. Not being able to speak or read German I had to rely on translation sites so I hope its correct. Any body who knows otherwise it would be great if you let me know.
I was half way through it at 2am, all I’d got done was the black when I was interrupted and had to bolt grabbing arm fulls of stencils and cans.
Next day I went back to make sure I didn’t leave anything behind and the Grey Painter had painted over the gun, left the rest they just painted over the gun. They edited my work!!!!
Not to be deterred the next night I re-stenciled the gun and finished the painting off with the red as I’d intended it to look. The next pic down says it all. Went back next day to get a better pic of it and it was gone completely.
OK so it was alright without the gun? I had to comment on this so I went back again a few nights later and painted ‘Freedom of Expression’. The Grey Painter has a sense of humor………this ones still there a week later. Not sure if its finished though?
I’ve introduced another alias Mr Insterg8r. Super Safe now has a split personality.
'Climate Crap' by Super Safe. With Australia's climate change denying new government trying to wind back all the positive steps forward taken under the last government tomorrow the 17th of Nov is a day of action here. Hundreds of marches are due to take place around the country telling the government and the world that not all Australian's are stuck in the dark ages.
Australia has the highest per capita energy use in the world, even higher than our American friends. And for some reason this government headed by Tony Abbott who famously said in his usual eloquent vocabulary ‘Climate Change is Crap’ is following his beliefs no matter how delusional and making it obvious to the world that Australia is too self centered to take any part in curbing greenhouse gasses.
This poster is my way of adding a bit to the public outcry. I put 20 odd up around the place.
'Durex' by Super Safe. Just got it back from the exhibition. This is the panel on the side of the box. I had a pen hanging off it and instructions to allow people who came to see the exhibition to write on it.
I posed the question ‘At what age did you have your first sexual experience’ and as you can see people had some fun.
Thought the answers were quite creative. Thanks people, good stuff. Also a nice change from ‘Don’t touch the artwork’.
Reblog this as much as you can for all the people who left their mark.
'Durex' by Super Safe. I was a finalist in an art prize, the theme Nude and Naked. This is what I came up with. I made a plywood box 190cm h x 80 cm w x 45 cm d and cut 20 odd stencils to make it look like an actual Durex product. I also had to make a trolly for it to sit on while I worked on it as its so bloody heavy.
It was fun trying to deliver it to the gallery where the exhibition is being held in the wee small hours of the morning. Left it out front wrapped up and just hoped it didn’t get nicked.
